چکیده
W ith the help of radioactive dilution analysis allowing the qualitative and quantitative deter mination of all three presently known juvenile hormones (JH-1 to 3) the following seven species of four orders were investigated in the adult stage: Coleoptera: Tenebrio molitor, Leptinotarsa decemlineata; O rthoptera: Schistocerca gregaria; B lattodea: Blatt a orientalis, Leucophaea maderae, Nauphoeta cinerea; Hymenoptera: A pis mellifera. In all these species of the 3 known juvenile hormones only methyl (2E ,6E)-10,ll-epoxy-3,7,lltrimethyl-2,6-dodecadienoate (JH-3) was found, in an amount of 0.5 to 11 ng per gram of body weight. The results of the chemical analyses were confirmed biologically by the Galleria wax test. The results demonstrate the wride spread occurrence of JH-3 in insects of different orders.

Isolation, Structure, and Absolute Configuration of a New Natural Insect Juvenile Hormone from Manduca sexta.
Two juvenile hormones are isolated from organ cultures of corpora allata of the tobacco hornworm moth, Manduca sexta Johannson, and are purified by high-resolution liquid chromatography. These are identified as methyl (2E, 6E)-(10R)-10,11-epoxy-3,7,11-trimethyl-2,6-dodecadienoate, a new natural hormone, and methyl (2E,6E) - (10R,11S) - 10,11 - epoxy - 3,7,11 - trimethyl-2,6-tridecadienoate. متن کاملCYP15A1, the cytochrome P450 that catalyzes epoxidation of methyl farnesoate to juvenile hormone III in cockroach corpora allata.
The molecular analysis of insect hormone biosynthesis has long been hampered by the minute size of the endocrine glands producing them. Expressed sequence tags from the corpora allata of the cockroach Diploptera punctata yielded a new cytochrome P450, CYP15A1. Its full-length cDNA encoded a 493-aa protein that has only 34% amino acid identity with CYP4C7, a terpenoid omega-hydroxylase previousl...
متن کاملTotal synthesis of the racemic form of the second juvenile hormone (methyl 12-homojuvenate) from the cecropia silk moth.
Methyl cis-10-epoxy-3,7,11-trimethyl-trans,trans-2,6-tridecadienoate has been stereoselectively synthesized in 12 steps starting from methyl trans-gamma-bromo-beta,beta-dimethylacrylate and 1-acetyl-1-methylcyclopropane. The final product proved to be identical with the second, less abundant juvenile hormone (methyl 12-homojuvenate) isolated from the Cecropia silk moth. The biological activitie...
متن کاملFarnesol and farnesal dehydrogenase(s) in corpora allata of the tobacco hornworm moth, Manduca sexta.
The metabolism of [3H]farnesol was studied in cell-free preparations of corpora allata from the tobacco hornworm, Manduca sexta, to assess the role of this presumed biosynthetic precursor of juvenile hormone (JH) III. A reversed-phase ion-pair liquid chromatographic (RP-IPC) procedure was devised to separate farnesol from several potential intermediates in its presumed metabolism to JH III: far...
متن کاملJuvenile hormone bisepoxide biosynthesis in vitro by the ring gland of Drosophila melanogaster: a putative juvenile hormone in the higher Diptera.
The in vitro production of juvenile hormone (JH) was investigated by using isolated ring glands from third instar Drosophila melanogaster. A JH-like molecule is secreted that comigrates with a synthetic sample of methyl 6,7;10,11-bisepoxy-3,7,11-trimethyl-(2E)-dodecenoate (JHB3) during TLC, liquid chromatography, and GC analysis. Purified product from farnesoic acid-stimulated ring glands was a...
